The Power Of Laughter
How often do you smile and laugh?
Did you know children laugh 100-300 times a day. Adults on the other hand laugh about 15 - 40 times (Research varies)... and of course, even less over the past couple of years.
We are getting more serious! While acknowledging the seriousness of what’s happening around us, we want to recognise that nobody needs laughter as much as those who have none left to give.
Sometimes when I go out walking at early hours, I purposely stop at the river and just laugh out loud. More often than not, if I feel under pressure, I will stop, breathe and focus on a smile. Call me weird but there is some beautiful science behind all this.
“Each time you smile you throw a little feel-good party in your brain.”
The notorious party animals dopamine, endorphins, and serotonin start whooping it up when you smile. Laughing swaps the cortisol in our bloodstream with these highly sought after chemicals in the brain: Dopamine can enhance learning, motivation, and attention. Oxytocin is considered the “empathy hormone” and the “bonding chemical,” and when it enters the bloodstream it creates feelings of relatedness. Endorphins trigger feelings of pleasure.
So now you know why I'm always smiling!
Small steps everyone xx
